PS 3

Course Description

Welcome to PS3! Your child's teachers are Mrs. Kalafatic and Ms. Porter. Your child's TA's are Ms. Monica and Ms. Ashley. This year we will be learning about various topics throughout the year based on fun, thematic units. Our lessons are based on the NY State Common Core Learning Standards. We provide hands-on, interactive lessons and activities while supplementing learning through play. We incorporate language into each aspect of our day. We will also be starting a literacy program called Fundations where your child will learn the letters of the alphabet, the sounds they make and how to write the letters. Please check our site weekly for our Newsletter so you can see the fun things we will be learning! In addition, please check your child's notebook daily and feel free to write to us at any time. We are excited for a new year and to see the wonderful progress each and every student will make!

Este año aprenderemos sobre varios temas a lo largo del año basados en divertidas unidades temáticas. Nuestras lecciones se basan en los Estándares de aprendizaje básicos comunes del estado de Nueva York. Brindamos lecciones y actividades interactivas y prácticas mientras complementamos el aprendizaje a través del juego. Incorporamos el lenguaje en cada aspecto de nuestro día. Specials Schedule

This schedule provides the days your child typically attends specials such as gym, art, music, library/technology. Follow this schedule to provide your child with resources provided from the specialist teachers. Click on the link during the assigned day and have your child engage in an activity that is related to the class.

Friday 4/17 Social Studies Video

This lesson is about the words UP and DOWN. UP and DOWN tell you which direction something is. Practice UP and DOWN with your child every day. Look for ideas in the activity packet.

Wednesday 4/15 Storytime Video

This is the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." After you watch the video, ask your child to retell the story using the pictures from the activity packet.

Wednesday 4/15 Science Video

This lesson is about body parts, the parts of a bunny in particular. Review your child's body parts with them and then ask them to identify the parts of a bunny on the worksheet provided.

Monday 4/13 Math Video

This lesson is about positional words, which are words that tell where something is. The words we are going to learn about today are "above," "below" and "next to." I want you to help your child practice using these words at home, every day!

Monday 4/13 Story “Pete the Cat and the Cool Caterpillar” by Ms. Ashley

Have your child look for all the different insects we see in the Spring. Pause the video periodically and ask them questions about the story!
