PS 3

Course Description

Welcome to PS3! Your child's teachers are Mrs. Kalafatic and Ms. Porter. Your child's TA's are Ms. Monica and Ms. Ashley. This year we will be learning about various topics throughout the year based on fun, thematic units. Our lessons are based on the NY State Common Core Learning Standards. We provide hands-on, interactive lessons and activities while supplementing learning through play. We incorporate language into each aspect of our day. We will also be starting a literacy program called Fundations where your child will learn the letters of the alphabet, the sounds they make and how to write the letters. Please check our site weekly for our Newsletter so you can see the fun things we will be learning! In addition, please check your child's notebook daily and feel free to write to us at any time. We are excited for a new year and to see the wonderful progress each and every student will make! 
 

¡Bienvenido a PS3! Los maestros de su hijo son la Sra. Kalafatic y la Sra. Porter. Los TA de su hijo son Ms. Monica y Ms. Ashley. Este año aprenderemos sobre varios temas a lo largo del año basados en divertidas unidades temáticas. Nuestras lecciones se basan en los Estándares de aprendizaje básicos comunes del estado de Nueva York. Brindamos lecciones y actividades interactivas y prácticas mientras complementamos el aprendizaje a través del juego. Incorporamos el lenguaje en cada aspecto de nuestro día. También comenzaremos un programa de alfabetización llamado Fundaciones donde su hijo aprenderá las letras del alfabeto, los sonidos que hace y cómo escribir las letras. ¡Visite nuestro sitio web semanalmente para obtener nuestro boletín informativo para que pueda ver las cosas divertidas que aprenderemos! “The Rainy Day” by Miss Monica. A video story about a rainy day and what happens as rain begins to fall . See if you discuss with your child and point out during the story about all the things that occur when it rains !

Friday 5/1 Social Studies Video

This video is about the words LEFT and RIGHT. LEFT and RIGHT help tell you where something is. Practice LEFT and RIGHT at home with your child and then have them complete the worksheet in the activity packet.

Wednesday 4/29 Science Video

This video shows how to tell the different between mommy and baby animals. Ask your child to identify mommy and baby animals and compare them by size. Complete the worksheet in the activity packet.

Monday 4/27 Math Video

This video shows how to duplicate or copy a pattern. Practice patterns with your child and then complete the worksheet in the activity packet.

Thursday 4/30 Science Video

In this video, Mrs. Kalafatic shows how to do the hand movements for different types of weather. Use these hand movements along with the appropriate vocabulary to describe different weather conditions (found in the activity packet).

Specials Schedule week of April 27th

This schedule provides the days your child typically attends specials such as gym, art, music, library/technology. Follow this schedule to provide your child with resources provided from the specialist teachers. Click on the link during the assigned day and have your child engage in an activity that is related to the class.
