PS 3

Course Description

Welcome to PS3! Your child's teachers are Mrs. Kalafatic and Ms. Porter. Your child's TA's are Ms. Monica and Ms. Ashley. This year we will be learning about various topics throughout the year based on fun, thematic units. Our lessons are based on the NY State Common Core Learning Standards. We provide hands-on, interactive lessons and activities while supplementing learning through play. We incorporate language into each aspect of our day. We will also be starting a literacy program called Fundations where your child will learn the letters of the alphabet, the sounds they make and how to write the letters. Please check our site weekly for our Newsletter so you can see the fun things we will be learning! In addition, please check your child's notebook daily and feel free to write to us at any time. We are excited for a new year and to see the wonderful progress each and every student will make! 
 

¡Bienvenido a PS3! Los maestros de su hijo son la Sra. Kalafatic y la Sra. Porter. Los TA de su hijo son Ms. Monica y Ms. Ashley. Este año aprenderemos sobre varios temas a lo largo del año basados en divertidas unidades temáticas. Nuestras lecciones se basan en los Estándares de aprendizaje básicos comunes del estado de Nueva York. Brindamos lecciones y actividades interactivas y prácticas mientras complementamos el aprendizaje a través del juego. Incorporamos el lenguaje en cada aspecto de nuestro día. Earth Day paper plate craft. Use whatever materials you have at home to create a picture of the earth. Have your child use blue to represent the water and green to represent the land. Have fun creating!

Friday 4/24 Nature Hunt Collage by Ms. Ashley

Fridays art activity includes a collage using items found on a nature hunt! If you can’t get outside, I encourage you to look outside. What are some things you would find on your nature hunt? Can you collect, draw or describe these items?

Thursday 4/23 “We’re Going On A Nature Hunt” by Ms. Ashley

“We’re Going On A Nature Hunt” by Steve Metzger and illustrated by Miki Sakamoto is a story about exploring the nature around you in the springtime. This story connects with our Spring theme and Earth Day celebrations this week. I encourage you to go outside in your backyard or take a look out your window. Point out some things that you see living in nature. What types of things would you find on a nature hunt? You can use this opportunity to have your child describe and use their imagination!

Story 4/20 The Bad Seed by Ms. Ashley

This weeks story continues with our Spring theme. The Bad Seed written by Jory John and Illustrated by Pete Oswald is a story about a sunflower seed. We can plant certain seeds during the springtime and watch them grow. Pay close attention to the sunflower seed in this story. You might just be able to learn something from him and the way that he grows and changes for the better!

Thursday 4/23 Social Studies Video

This lesson is about the words NEAR and FAR. These words tell you where something is. After this video, you can practice demonstrating the words NEAR and FAR at home by completing the activity in your activity packet.

Tuesday 4/21 Science Video

This lesson is about Recycling. You will learn about the different kinds of paper and plastic items you can recycle. You can practice recycling at home and then complete the worksheet to sort paper and plastic items.

Specials Schedule for the week of April 20th

This schedule provides the days your child typically attends specials such as gym, art, music, library/technology. Follow this schedule to provide your child with resources provided from the specialist teachers. Click on the link during the assigned day and have your child engage in an activity that is related to the class.
