UPK 2

Course Description

Just uploading the letters we send home this week, as well as a picture of Teddy Tiegerman and the letter that it is inside his notebook. I have also uploaded the letter that you will receive with the poster, when your child is chosen to be the star student the following week. I am currently waiting for the photographs to be uploaded from this week, from the school's camera (the only one we are permitted to use, for your child's safety.).

Posts

Hanukkah play dough - we used Hanukkah cookie cutters, first we rolled out the dough and then used the cookie cutters - we had stars, menorahs, Maccabees, and dreidel shapes.
Dreidel bingo - I showed the children the Hebrew letters and then used letters that make a similar song in English. After they span the dreidel they saw what letter it had landed on, and used Hanukkah stamps to stamp that letter on their bingo sheet. We used H, G, N and S, both uppercase and lowercase letters.
Bean bag toss on to a numbered menorah - practicing our throwing skills and a number recognition!

Week of December 2nd 2019

Last week we learned all about Kwanzaa. We use a plastic needle and yarn to string Kwanzaa colored beads in an ABC pattern. We colored a Kinara (candle holder) and the seven candles – three red on the left, three black on the right and one black candle in the middle. We made Unity Cups and described how we decorated them using positional words such as top, middle, bottom, and next to. We made a Kwanzaa placemat (Mkeka) using red and green triangles and rectangles on black paper, and we played Kwanzaa board games. We made lots of holiday feasts in the dramatic play center, and read the Scholastic magazine all about community holiday helpers – mail carriers, snowplow drivers, pilots, town workers and store clerks. We also practiced our songs for the upcoming concert – the children are very excited to perform on the 19th of December!
