Dear Families and Friends,

Tiegerman opened its doors 37 years ago in order to support the needs of children with language disorders. Since then we have grown to service close to 3,500 students ages 3-21. In 2010, we expanded our scope and created Tiegerman Community Services, which currently assists approximately 350 individuals within the developmentally disabled adult population. Our agency embarked on a new journey
that resulted in a facelift of sorts. Formerly known as the School for Language and Communication Development (SLCD) and Able Community Services, we became Tiegerman Schools and Tiegerman Community Services, serving children and adults with developmental disabilities.

While the types of programming and quality of services we provide have increased and improved, the feedback we received from various stakeholders was that we are no longer just a school and no longer just a place for language impaired children. We are an agency! These notions inspired us to reconsider our reason for being and resulted in a revision of our agency's mission:

The Tiegerman mission of "teaching the extraordinary" reflects the organization's goal to substantively transform the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities from preschool throughout adulthood by means of the Tiegerman Learning Method. We are committed to providing an enduring opportunity for exceptional instruction, education and support to ensure that the children and adults that we serve achieve their potential in life. We believe that each individual is extraordinary and through our extraordinary efforts they will achieve a more independent and successful future.

Having a mission is imperative in helping all stakeholders understand our purpose. We want to bring this to your attention because you are all important parts of our organization. Close cooperation between home and program is necessary to ensure that the journey of development is realized for all of our students and individuals by means of our collaborative working relationship. We strongly encourage all families and friends to take part in the educational journey of our students and individuals. Your involvement and support will be critical in ensuring that all future efforts are extraordinary!

Thank you
