ELA (Period HR12)

Course Description

Welcome back! This week in ELA we will be discussing, creating, and writing about New Year's Resolutions. In addition, we will be learning about the author of our upcoming story, Cynthia Rylant. Our new story is called Stray, which we will begin reading next week. To prepare for our new story, we will practice using context clues to determine the meaning of our new vocabulary words!

ELA Lessons Week of 5.4-5.8

Hi everyone, 
 
Here is a break down of the assignments each day:
 
Monday:Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of our new vocabulary words in the our story, The All-American Surp. The access code to it is YQEBC / The All-American Slurp Vocabulary
 
Tuesday: Students will have the opportunity to gain some background information about the author of our new story. In addition, we will be gaining background knowledge of the themes presented in the story to make it easier to make inferences while reading. The access code is PVWNE / Building Background
 
Wednesday/Thursday (HR 10, 11, 12): Students will be able to interview a family member to gain information about their culture and customs. Once students have completed their interview questions, students will create video presentations that provide some insight into their culture and customs. The access code is EQZUD / Family Interview
 
** Reminder your log in for Flipgrid is the same login you use for Mr. Formont:
 
It is your full first name+your 1st letter of your last name+HR+the number homeroom you are (Example: JacklynPHR11). If you have two last names, such as Perillo-Muller, your code would be JacklynPMHR11. You would use the first letter of each of the last names.

Friday: Students will self-reflect on their work and identify one thing they did well for their mini project and one thing they want to improve for next time. This will be done within the nearpod presentation. Students will then view their friends' video presentations on flipgrid to learn about other cultures and customs. Students will comment about one thing they learned about their peers' culture and customs within the nearpod presentation. The access code is: VDHYS / Reflections

ELA Work for the Week of 4.27-5.1

Hi everyone, 
 
Here is a break down of the assignments each day:
 
Monday:Students have the opportunity to finish the story and the questions from last week if they need to. The access code to complete the story and the questions is CTLYQ for Homerooms 10, 11, 12 and CMRBE for Homeroom 13.
 
If the students finished the story, they can complete a fill in the blanks summary of the story. The access code is KXPUJ / Alternative Assignment.
 
Tuesday: Students will have the opportunity to review for their test by playing a Jeopardy Review game. Students can play the game independently or with family members. There are 5 categories to choose from and point values between 10-50. Students will choose a category and a point value then a question will appear. If the student is playing alone, they should answer the question out loud to themselves. If the student is playing with someone, they should tell the person they are playing with. Once the question has been answered, the student clicks on 'view answer' to check and see if their answer was correct. You do not need to keep score, but can if you want! The access code is QJZYO /All Stories are Anansi’s Review game.
 
Wednesday/Thursday (HR 10, 11, 12): Students will be taking their All Stories are Anansi's test. They have two days to complete it and they are able to use the Nearpod presentation that has the story to help them answer the questions. The access code is ZYGJP / All Stories are Anansi’s Test HR 10, 11, 12.
 
Wednesday/Thursday (HR 13): Students will be taking their All Stories are Anansi's test. They have two days to complete it and they are able to use the Nearpod presentation that has the story to help them answer the questions. The access code is EIJVS / All Stories are Anansi’s Test HR 13. 
 
Friday: Students will complete a reader's response. They will have the opportunity to write who their favorite character was in the story and why. They will also be able to draw a picture of that character. Lastly, students will write about a part of the story that they would change. They will need to explain why and how they would change it. The access code is: OEWXN / Reader’s Response.
