September 26th will be our first TEST of the school year!

Students will receive their study guides next week. The test will cover William Shakespeare and Shakespearean drama, the genre of drama and subgenre of tragedy. We will be writing notes on these topics in class (all notes should be kept TOGETHER in their English section). The notes will be used to complete review questions in the study guides.

This Week in ELA: Sept. 9-13, 2019

Welcome to the first full week of school!! This week, the ninth-grade students will begin their exploration of drama and William Shakespeare, while the tenth-graders will be reviewing these topics to help prepare them for the tragic plays they will be reading as a class. The ninth-graders will be reading "Romeo and Juliet", while the tenth-graders read "Julius Caesar".

We will first watch a short YouTube documentary on William Shakespeare to get a glimpse of what we know about him and his works, followed by a discussion (using our textbooks) on the genre of drama, focusing on tragedies (specifically Greek tragedies for the tenth-graders).

We will also discuss what theater life was like during the time of Shakespeare and compare it to the bright lights of Broadway we know today.

The students will be responsible for completing class notes as we discuss these topics, which will be of use to them when completing their Study Guides for their first test (don't worry, that will be at least another couple weeks away!).

DON'T FORGET: "BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT" IS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH @ 6:15P.M.
