Life Skills 5/4 - 5/8

Greetings Everyone, I hope you are all hanging in there!

I know it's been tough for everyone dealing with this huge change and the pandemic.  I just want to say I'm so proud of everyone's effort, nobody could have foreseen this sort of thing having such a huge effect on us.  Keep up the good work, keep trying your best, and we'll get through it.  Hopefully we can all be back together for Summer Session, but we'll have to wait and see on the Governor.  In the mean time, keep washing your hands, keep being safe, and keep on being responsible.

Alright, this week we have our next two lessons;

Monday - Wednesday = Debating - https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/AHDxDKqQLu

Wednesday - Friday = Consequences of Your Actions - https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/RkIDgBIMMu

It was so nice to pop onto the Zoom meetings with the Homerooms!  I'm excited for us all to be reunited again!

Sincerely,

Mr. Egelman

Due:

Life Skills 4/27 - 5/1

Greetings all!  I hope you're all staying safe and healthy.  It seems that social distancing seems to be working pretty well, so we must stay the course and try our best and we will defeat this virus!  I'm so proud of all of my students who are putting in the efforts to keep with it here at school, and the parents too!  You are doing a tremendous job of rising up and doing way more than you planned to this school year!  You have my respect and gratitude as we continue this digital partnership.  In the next few weeks, we should be making our transition to Google Classroom, and that should help with the organization and work flow as well.

Here are our assignments this week for Life Skills;

Monday - Wednesday - Adapting to Change - https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/OJC5VfIFNu

I wish all of our families and students all the very best.  You are in my thoughts and my heart!

Sincerely,

Mr. Egelman

Assignment

Greetings parents and students, I hope you're all continuing to hang in there, and stay healthy and safe.  As we have learned, the Governor has recently extended NYS PAUSE until May 15th.  I know it's difficult times for sure, a lot of stress from various places, but we try our best and we can get through this together.  Don't forget to take screen breaks, stretch your legs, get a little exercise, and try to find ways to relieve some stress.

As we finish up from our Holiday break, we'll try to get back into the "swing of things".  We have two assignments this week.  Try pacing yourself, see if you can complete one between Monday and Wednesday, and the other between Wednesday and Friday.  This is a great example of how high school or college students manage their work!

Here is our work;

I eagerly look forward to returning back to our school, our community, our Tiegerman family!  Stay safe and well friends.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Mr. Egelman

Assignment

Hello again everyone, I just want to take the time to wish everyone a happy holiday season to all those who celebrate, even among these trying times.  I want to extend my well wishes to all families.  I know the strain is only continuing, and we are all trying our best.  I give you the parents who are working and managing your young students all at the same time a ton of credit, as it is a monumental task, and I applaud all of you.  In the spirit of the holiday week, we have one assignment due next Friday 4/17.  I hope you are all able to take some time to unwind and relax, and to take a pause from the stress!  We shall overcome!

Sincerely,

Mr. Egelman

Assignment

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you are all holding up as best you can, and we are all safe and secure and hanging in there.  I miss all of the students and we are definitely living in interesting times!

I know we are continuing to cope with things, and it is not easy, but we are all trying our best.  That's all we can do, and it's an important life lesson to share with our children and students as well.  This is just another (particularly large!) obstacle for us to overcome.

As most of you may know by now, the governor has decided to continue remote learning through the traditional April Holiday break.  For the next week, with regards to any sort of religious observances, we just have one lesson to complete.  This is about Goal Planning (something we all have a little extra time for these days!).  The link below will bring you directly to the classwork.

Assignment

Hello everyone, and welcome to week 2 of Tiegerman remote learning.

I just want to commend everyone who has submitted work.  I know these are trying times and there is so much going on.  We are all trying to manage, and balancing your priorities is never an easy or fun task.  The most important thing is that we show our students, and our children, that we try our best and overcome adversity as it comes.  With that said, everyone has different situations going on, and we are trying your best, so I totally understand.  I am always here at [email protected] for any questions or suggestions.

As we move forward in our current situation, I'll be sure to add additional videos as well as tutorials and voice overs to help with instruction.  The entire staff is experimenting with the Zoom Video Conference Program, so we are excited to roll out these aids as well.  This works well with Nearpod lessons, and we'll continue to use those lessons as well.  One thing to keep in mind with Nearpod, there is a new option that is being made available to allow students to speak answers into the microphone to help answer questions, and this is a wonderful modification that can be used as needed to assist your child in accessing our content.  Also to aid in instruction, I will be adding voice overs to all Nearpod lessons, so that way there will be option to have all of the text read to the students.  This will not only help with the classwork, but also will aid in your student's reading instruction!

Our 2 Lessons This Week;

https://share.nearpod.com/YJ4NmjSwc5 - Communicating My Needs - Class Code - IFAMS

https://share.nearpod.com/7yKS2eWwc5 - Balancing Obligations - Class Code - SDBPF

As always, for an extension activity the student can write a short journal entry about their day, discussing something they did and how they feel.  Being able to express one's emotions and process how they are feeling is an important and vital life skill.  Extension writing can be saved until the return of school, or a picture of it can be sent to my email at [email protected] for record keeping.

Wishing everyone all the best!  Stay strong!  More video content from Mr. Egelman is also forthcoming!

Assignment

Greetings all parents, I hope you and all of your families are hanging in there.

As we navigate through this uncharted territory, I just wanted to let you all know that I, like all of the teachers at Tiegerman Middle School, are here to support you as best we can in this time of need.  Everyone is still adjusting and it is totally understandable if you are stressed out, we will try our best to get through everything together, fear not!  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

My classes (HRs 10 - 13) during the year have met 2-3 times a week, so while we utilize this remote learning system I will adjust accordingly.  I will generally post 2-3 content lessons per week that will be due every Friday.  This allows students (and yourselves!) to balance out everything that is going on with some flexibility.  I will try my best to mainly utilize Nearpod, which reduces printing and worrying about paper copies while allowing me to collect the data I need.  When your students sign into a Nearpod class, just have them use their first name and homeroom as their label, such as "JeremyHR12".

If you are interested in an extension activity that does not involve screen time for the assignment, the students can answer the following questions on a piece of loose leaf I can collect upon their return to school (or a picture can be taken and sent to my email address above and below).  If your student needs help physically writing, such as using a highlighter for them to trace over in pencil, or they dictated to you an answer, that is more than acceptable and please make a note at the top of the page.

Follow up Questions:

1. What is one new thing you learned from this lesson?
2. What was something you liked about this lesson, and why?
3. How are you feeling today and why?

This first week we will start with just 2 assignments, to allow everyone to ease into things;

https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/xreRw0DzMu - Stressful Situations - Class Code - LAHOD

https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/PRizHQC0Lu - Measuring Exact Time on a Clock - Class Code - DCQVS

Along with our medical professionals, all of you parents are true heroes.  I know a lot is being asked of you to balance out in these trying times.  You all have our respect, love, and support here at Tiegerman.  We will get through this!

Again, please reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Mr. Egelman
