›I have a BS in English from Stony Brook University and have my MA in Elementary Education and Special Education. 

›This is my 10th year at SLCD.  I am thrilled to be teaching 1st grade for the 8th time  (3rd time with Mrs. Kasten!)

In ELA we will be working on drawing conclusions.

Peek of the Week for SA8 12/17/18 to 12/21/18

In Math we will be finishing the Holiday week with addition word problem solving.  

In ELA we will be discussing nouns.  Nouns are people, places, or things. 

In Social Studies we will be discussing holiday traditions, and cultural celebrations  in various communities. 

In Science we will be discussing recycling, as well as, "What does the environment provide for people?"  

In Socialization we will be practice one more time on Monday and our Holiday Show will be on Wednesday at 12:45. 

Be sure to arrive early to ensure a good seat.  We will be singing and dancing to the tune "Jingle Bell Rock".  We hope to see you all there!  Shortly afterwards we will have some chips, cookies, and pretzels in our classroom.  

We will also be having a pizza party/ chips and cookie party on Friday.

This a picture of John and Rosa filtering coffee grinds through a filter which cleans the water.  We learned that filters can be useful at removing particles from contaminated water;however the color did not change.  Great Job Students!!!

In Science we will continue onto learning more about the habitats and discussing animal populations and animal communities.

In ELA we will begin discussing the story Pond Street Clubhouse and learning about making predictions and judging the accuracy of the predictions. 

In Math we will begin solving addition problems up to 3-digit plus 3-digit numbers.  We will first be working on word problems, then we will be strengthening and utilizing the touch point strategy to solve addition problems.

In Social Studies, we will be discussing locating places on maps by using cardinal directions.  

In Socialization we will be beginning our Holiday Show practice.  We will be singing and dancing to the tune "Jingle Bell Rock"

In Social Studies we will be learning all about the origins of Thanksgiving (i.e., Pilgrims).

In ELA we will be identifying the subject (the who or what) of a sentence.

In Science we will be discussing predators and prey.  We will also be discussing a wild turkey's habitat.

In mathematics we will we discussing the associative, commutative, and identity property of Addition.
