All About Me!
Last year, I took a year off from teaching to study Greek, volunteer, spend time with my family and substitute teach in Kindergarten to 8th grade. I have four children and only have two left at home. My youngest is 14. I have a dog named Lucy. I love to travel, garden, read, build things, face paint, ski and have fun!
Week of December 2nd 2019
Last week we learned all about Kwanzaa. We use a plastic needle and yarn to string Kwanzaa colored beads in an ABC pattern. We colored a Kinara (candle holder) and the seven candles – three red on the left, three black on the right and one black candle in the middle. We made Unity Cups and described how we decorated them using positional words such as top, middle, bottom, and next to. We made a Kwanzaa placemat (Mkeka) using red and green triangles and rectangles on black paper, and we played Kwanzaa board games. We made lots of holiday feasts in the dramatic play center, and read the Scholastic magazine all about community holiday helpers – mail carriers, snowplow drivers, pilots, town workers and store clerks. We also practiced our songs for the upcoming concert – the children are very excited to perform on the 19th of December!
