Living Environment 9th Grade (Period 4-HR12)

Course Description

Welcome to Living Environment class! I have been teaching here at Tiegerman for the past 6 years, and am excited for another school year!  Living Environment covers and reviews the fundamental principles of biology. It is a 1.5 year course, ultimately preparing students to take the regents in January of 10th grade.  We will cover the following topics in Living Environment:
  • Intro to Biology/Scientific Method
  • Ecology
  • Human Impact on Environment
  • Cells
  • Cell Division
  • Genetics
  • DNA/DNA Replication
  • Evolution
  • The Human Body

Students will have a test October 30, 2019.  It will be on biotic and abiotic factors, organization in an ecosystem, and symbiotic relationships.  The review sheet is posted under the assignments section.

Monday, October 7: students will continue to work on their Making Connections Regents Lab
Tuesday, October 8: students will continue to work on their Making Connections Regents Lab
Wednesday, October 9: No School
Thursday, October 10: Students will work in small groups to read about Biotic and Abiotic factors and answer questions about what they rad
Friday, October 11: Students will travel to different stations to read about biotic and abiotic factors that affect deer.  At each station, they will read a passage about a factor and answer questions about that factor.

Living Environment 9th - week of Sept 23-27

Monday 9/23: Students will play a board game to review the scientific method
Tuesday 9/24: Students will go over review sheet to review for their quiz
Wednesday 9/25: Quiz - Scientific Method
Thursday 9/26: Students will complete a NYS regents lab using their knowledge of the scientific method
Friday 9/27: Students will continue to work on NYS regents lab making connections.
