Hello and Happy Monday!
Last week we were working on lots of rhyming poetry and the importance of asking "wh-" questions to gain lots of understanding about what you're reading about.  If the specialist paper has not been updated the new social-emotional video for this week about empathy will be "NMEPC".  This can be completed at any time the students are free to complete it.  I had slightly hurt my back lifting a big bag of books from the classroom the other day sooo i'm going to have to skip the "gym in the home classroom"  video this week.  I'll have one ready for the 27th of April.  Anyhow, I'm hoping everyone had a great weekend!

This week we will be taking one last look at rhyming poetry to end Unit 2.  This week in ELA we will have the same Nearpod on Monday and Tuesday and we will be focusing on asking  "Wh-" questions.  The ELA Nearpod for MON/TUES= UJDPR.  Wednesday through Friday we will be taking a look at 3 more rhyming poems about how animals behave and appear (i.e, Beetles, The Little Turtle and Gray Goose)  The ELA Nearpod lesson codes will be the same for Wednesday through Friday = YHOWE

For Monday Science (Nearpod lesson code: GMIWP) we will take a look at a scientific tool that's used to measure how fast the wind is blowing (i.e., an anemometer) and if students have the materials at  home they can make one with the help of a parent.  The materials required: push-pin, unused pencil with eraser, 2 small cups, 1 plastic straw.  If you do not have the materials, don't worry, you can ask your child to draw one on a sheet of paper.
On Tuesday Science (Nearpod lesson code: PXJEO) we will focus on thermometers and reading temperatures.  Wednesday through Friday we will be focusing on the four seasons, words that describe the temperature, what clothes to wear and what a tree look like during each season.  The Science Nearpod lesson codes for Wednesday through Friday.
Wednesday: MEDJS,
Thursday: PYQBC
and Friday:
ITNXD.

I just want to take a moment to thank all the parents, at-home support teams and siblings who continue work hard through these times at home with your child.  We appreciate all your hard work, your kind comments, your constructive criticism and letting us know how we can improve anything from making an assignment more modified (creating greater independence for student) or asking about ways to allow students to navigate in an easier fashion (text box difficulties)   Your insight and hard work, works!  We will continue to try to establish a strong home-school connection and we will do everything we can on our end to make this a productive learning experience for everybody!

Thanks again,
Mr. Ehrlinger and Mrs. Adler

Happy Friday!  We have made it through 2 weeks of Remote Learning and 3 weeks of not being in school.  We want to thank you for all of your support.

Today's math is the final day of counting by 2's.  The children will watch a video and then watch me play a game.  They will play the game after the video.  To find the game, go on abcya.com.  In the Search bar, type in Number Bubble.  Once it comes up scroll down to the bottom Bubble where it says Number Bubble.  Click on that and then click on the green arrow.  Once you get into the game, click on the number 2 and then Go.  Have fun.  I am attaching a lot of worksheets. Have your child pick 2 worksheets he/she wants to do.  The rest of the worksheets are only if you want him/her do them over the weekend as extra practice.

Today's Social Studies is the final day learning about maps.  Today's map is a bedroom.  The children have to match the furniture in the bedroom to the map key and tell what the furniture it.  The worksheet is a map of a zoo.  The children will match the picture of the animals with their pictures in the map key.  They will cut out each animal and paste it on the label of that animal in the zoo.  Today is a Nearpod day.  The nearpod is called "Reading Maps".  Read through the slides and complete the quiz at the end.  Make sure your child looks at the picture in the top right to help find the  answers to each question.  You can always look back at the slides to help find the answers.  The lesson code is - TIZOY.

Assignment

Math - By now your child should be quite proficient when counting by 2's.  Today the children will be counting by 2's up to 30.  You can play a game at home.  Place multiples of different items around your house.  Have your child go searching for them and then they should count them by 2's and write the answer on a piece of paper.  For example you can place 14 cotton balls on top of the toilet tank,  8 cheerios on a kitchen chair, 12 buttons on the TV stand, 20 Q-Tips on their bed.  Have them count the items by 2's.  After counting, they will write the number on a piece of paper.  After watching the video, print out the worksheet.  The children have to count the balls and write the number.   Try to have them count by 2's.  The first two lines are counting by 2's.  The third line is counting by 5's.  Even though we haven't learned to count by 5's the children can just count by 1's and write int he answer.

Social Studies - Today the children will learn how to read a map key and what it is.  They will also learn to look at the pictures on a map and then at the map key to find the same picture with the word written next to it to tell what it is.  After watching the video, print out the worksheet.  The children will use a magic marker and follow a path on a map.   They cannot hit any dead ends in the roads.

Hello and Happy Wednesday,
We have updated the science and ELA for the remainder of the week.  The only changes on the lesson plan from the one we had submitted earlier in the week is identical, but the lesson code for science has been added for Wednesday-Friday (GJLSQ) and for Friday's study guide and the end of the week ELA assessment we had added the lesson code as well (UEAYO).
Thank You,
Mr. Ehrlinger & Mrs. Adler

HI Everyone,  We almost finished Week 1 of our Remote Learning Program and now we are about to start Week 2 of our Remote Learning Program.  This week we will be trying Recorded Instructional Videos.  You will be able to see us and hear us, but we will not be in the classroom.  We will be in our houses, just like you all are.  We hope you have some fun with this.  If you have any questions or any problems doing this, have your mommy or daddy email us.  WE MISS YOU and hope to see you back at school soon.  Keep up the good work you have been doing so far.  Thank your parents for their help and patience with us during this time.
Love and Hugs,
Mrs. Adler and Mr. Ehrlinger

Assignment

Are you ready to have a great Thursday?  Today for Math we have another day of Fact Families.  I want the children to make sure they understand that it only takes 3 numbers to make 4 number sentences.  They should know that a shortcut to find the answers is when you use two of the numbers, the number left is the answer.  After watching the video, your child will complete the worksheet.

Assignment

Good Morning and Happy Thursday,
Just to reiterate today students will continue working on the same ELA Nearpod lesson entitled "Baby Bears" (lesson code: UEAYO) and same science Nearpod lesson from Wednesday entitled "We eat plant parts" (lesson code: GJLSQ).  We will be posting these daily to strengthen the home: school connection and ease the difficulties of navigating through the Nearpod codes and provide greater continuity of what's being assigned for each day.  We've also attached the ELA and Science lesson plans to this assignment description.
Thanks again and have a great day,
Mr. Ehrlinger & Mrs. Adler

Assignment

Today's Math continues learning about Fact Families.  Fact Families are three numbers that can be used to make four different number sentences.  The smaller two numbers have to add up to the third number.  Please watch my video on Fact Families and print out the worksheet to do your own fact families.  After watching the video, go to Nearpod.com and watch the slides on Fact Families and Number Sentences.  Your child should fill in the blank squares on slide 7, 9, 11 and 15.  The code for the Nearpod is LIUMY.

Today's Social Studies is about Neighborhoods and Communities.  There are three kinds of neighborhoods - urban,(city), suburb and rural and the laws (rules) that must be followed in each neighborhood.  The children will see the different kinds of neighborhoods in my video.  Print out the worksheet and have your child find the rules that are being followed and the rules that are not being followed.

Below you will find the weeks lesson plans.  There contains one lesson for each day of this week. Day one (today) is entitled "Would You Rather?" and the lesson code is QALMG.  It's an ice breaker activity that will help the students ease into the Nearpod program and learning how to navigate when using the website.  For this week each day will consist of one lesson.  We hope your're enjoying some quality family time and getting excited about learning form home.  We will make every attempt to make your homeschooling experience engaging and enjoyable
Thank you again for your ongoing support!

Math

Topic:  Basic Addition

Lesson Code: TNAYH

Directions – Go on the site Nearpod.com/student and enter the code TNAYH

Welcome to Day 4 of our Remote Learning Program.  Today's lesson is math.  It is a very simple lesson that the students should not have trouble doing.  Some can do it on their own and some may need support.  I want it to be simple to build confidence and for the students to feel successful, their first time conquering a remote math lesson.  I want these lessons to be fun and not frustrating.  The degree of simplicity will decrease as the weeks go on and the students will need more and more support.  All of the math so far, will be topics that have been covered in school this year, with maybe a couple of harder math problems thrown in.  The students should already have done simple addition work sheets that were sent home in the packet.

Look at each slide and follow the directions.  On slides 8-10, the students will add apples and will need to write the answers on the computer or tablet.  If they don’t need the help, they can do it on their own.  On slides 13-21, the students are required to do the simple addition problems on their own.  On slide 22, the students are to make up their own simple addition math problem drawing the correct amount of apples, the numbers to add and writing in the answer.  On slide 24, with your help, the students are to write why they think it is important to know how to add objects or groups together.  On slide 25 students are to let me know how they felt doing this lesson.

Assignment

Hello Parents and Students.  After today's Nearpod lesson, we have finished Week 1 doing Remote Learning.  It has been quite an experience to adjust to this new way of life, and you have all come through with flying colors.  We appreciate all of your cooperation and patience throughout the week, while we were trying to figure everything out.  Today's Social Studies lesson is on Natural Resources.  Air, water, sun, forests and soil are natural resources.  In the Nearpod lesson, the children are going to match  natural resources with things they are used for.  They will match each word with the picture of natural resource, on Slide 4 and on Slide 6, they will match the natural resource with the picture that shows that it is made from that natural resource.  On slide 7, your child will write one thing that might happen if we don't save our natural resources.  If they can write a complete sentence, that would be great, but it is OK if they just list the one thing.  Please check the email that was sent to you this morning, if you haven't read it already.  Attached to the email is a work sheet to print out and have your child complete.  I am also attaching some pictures of natural resources to show your child.  We spent at least 2 weeks on natural resources.  Have fun!
Mrs. Adler and Mr. Ehrlinger
